Turkmenistan Classic Silk Road Tour - Itinerary
One of the least visited but most fascinating of Central Asian countries’ Turkmenistan is a blend of old and new.
Gleaming Ashgabat bristles with glass and steel whilst the ruins of Nisa and Merv hark back to the days of the fabled Silk Road of two thousand years ago.
Day 1
Ashgabat


Meet upon arrival and transfer to hotel. Visit the Tolkuchka Bazaar followed by the Park of Independence and Neutrality Square with its bizarre Arch of Neutrality.

Visit the National Museum of History with artefacts from some of Turkmenistan’s ancient sites including Nisa and Merv. Return to the hotel in late afternoon.
Day 2
Ashbagat – Mary (Merv)

After breakfast depart for Mary stopping at the former medieval city of Bagabad and the ruins of the Seyit Jemaleddin Mosque. Continue to the 18th century fortress of Nadir Shah.

Continue on to Tiruvanamalai and the Sparsha Resort.
Arrive in Mary (Merv) in the afternoon.
Day 3
Mary – Ashgabat


After breakfast an excursion through the desert to Gonur Depe, one of the oldest cities in the Margush area. Have a picnic lunch at the site before driving back to Ashgabat.

Board the flight to Ashgabat and upon arrival transfer to hotel.
Day 4
Ashgabat

After breakfast an excursion through the desert to Gonur Depe, one of the oldest cities in the Margush area. Have a picnic lunch at the site before driving back to Ashgabat.

Board the flight to Ashgabat and upon arrival transfer to hotel.
Day 5
Ashgabat – Dashoguz – Ashgabat

We depart early and fly to Dashoguz and proceed to Konya Urgench, former capital of the medieval Khorezmshah Empire.

We return to Dashoguz for the 45 minute flight back to Ashgabat and the hotel.
Day 6
Ashgabat – Nisa – Ashgabat


We depart for the old fortress of Nisa, another UNESCO listed World Heritage Site and the earliest capital of the Parthian Empire. Proceed to Kipchak village with the largest mosque in Turkmenistan and the family mausoleum of the first President.

We return to Ashgabat and its Fine Arts Museum followed by a cable car ride offering breath-taking panoramic views of the city and surrounding foothills. Return to Ashgabat.
Day 7
Ashbagat

Transfer to Ashgabat Airport for your onward flight.
