Sri Lanka Highlights - Itinerary
Justifiably known as the Pearl of the Indian Ocean, Sri Lanka boasts pristine white sands, a dizzying array of marine wildlife and scenic national parks as well as some fascinating historical and cultural sites. On this tour you can scale the heights of Sigiriya Rock Fortress and plumb the depths of Dambulla Caves. In Kandy visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth and take a train up in to the hills to Nuwara Eliya. Explore Yala National Park by jeep on the lookout for elephants and relax in the impressive Galle Fort before ending the trip on the beach at Bentota.
Day 1
Colombo – Sigiriya

Arrive at Colombo Airport and transfer by road to Sigiriya and the hotel, Amaya Lake.
Day 2
Sigiriya

Guided tour of the Polonnaruwa ruins, the island’s medieval capital between the 11th and 13th century.

Embark on a jeep safari in Minneriya National Park home to sambhur deer and elephants.
Day 3
Sigiriya

Drive to Sigirya Rock Fortress and make the ascent. Although a steep climb, the views and frescoes are definitely worth the effort.

Walk to a neighboring village and enjoy a typical village lunch.
Day 4
Sigiriya – Kandy


Depart for Kandy via the Dambulla Caves. The 1st century BC man-made caves are completely covered by ancient frescoes depicting religious and secular scenes. Also visit the Matale Spice Garden.

Arrive in Kandy and check in to the Amaya Hills Hotel.

Visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth which houses one of the most sacred relics of Buddhism – a tooth of Buddha.
Day 5
Kandy

Sightseeing of Kandy the old capital of Ceylon.

Visit the Royal Botanical Gardens, Peradiniya.
Day 6
Kandy - Nuwara Eliya


Take the train to Nuwara Eliya colonial hill station built by the British in the 19th century.

Proceed the rest of the way by car to the hotel, The Blackpool.
Day 7
Nuwara Eliya

A free day to relax and enjoy the former hill station.
Day 8
Nuwara Eliya – Yala National Park

Depart for Yala National Park, home to 400 elephants and 40 leopards in addition to wild buffalo, deer, black bears, macaques and jackals.

Jeep safari in the park before returning to the Nikara Yala Hotel.
Day 9
Yala National Park – Galle

A second jeep safari.

Drive to the coastal town of Galle and best known for its impressive fort: a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the best preserved colonial sea fortress in Asia. Check in to the Fort Bazaar Hotel.
Day 10
Galle


We spend the morning exploring the impressive Galle Fort.

Rest of day at leisure.
Day 11
Galle – Bentota

Drive the short distance to the beach resort town of Bentota and the Bentota Beach Hotel.
Day 12 & 13
Bentota

Two days of sun, sea, sand and relaxation. There is the opportunity to water ski and wind surf.
Day 14
Bentota – Colombo

Drive the short distance up the cost to Colombo for your onward flight.
