Sri Lanka Discovery Tour - Itinerary
Discover the natural beauty and diversity of Sri Lanka on this trip. We stay in Anamaduwa, renowned for its wildlife. Here you can go kayaking, walk on nature trials, go cycling or just sit back and soak it all in.<br/ Sri Lanka’s past is explored at the ruins of the former ancient capitals of Polonnaruwa and Anuradhapura as well as the awe-inspiring rock fortress at Sigiriya. In Kandy visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth and take a train up in to the hills to Nuwara Eliya. Explore Yala National Park by jeep on the lookout for elephants and relax on the beach at Mirissa.
Day 1
Colombo – Negombo

Arrive and transfer by road to Negombo and your hotel for checking-in and briefing of the tour. The remainder of the day is free at leisure.
Day 2
Negombo – Anamaduwa


Depart Negombo for Anamaduwa and the Mudhouse Resort.

Arrive and take lunch at the hotel and the rest of the day is free to relax and enjoy.
Day 3
Anamaduwa

Anamaduwa offers the opportunity for a number of activities including bird watching, kayaking, nature trails, cooking lessons and cycling. Lunch and dinner will be at the hotel.
Day 4
Anamaduwa – Sigiriya


Depart Anamaduwa for Sigiriya stopping en route at Anuradhapura city, the largest and oldest of Sri Lanka’s ancient cities.

Also visiting the mountain peak of Mihintale and continuing on to your hotel in Sigiriya.
Day 5
Sigiriya

After breakfast a guided tour of the Polonnaruwa ruins. Polonnaruwa was the island’s medieval capital between the 11th and 13th century.

Embark on a jeep safari in Minneriya National Park, home to deer and elephants. The central feature of the park is the 3rd century Minneriya Tank.
Day 6
Sigiriya

After breakfast drive to Sigirya Rock Fortress and make the ascent. Although it is a steep climb, the views and frescoes are definitely worth the effort.

In the afternoon walk to a neighbouring village and enjoy a typical village lunch. Return to the hotel in the afternoon.
Day 7
Sigiriya – Kandy


After breakfast depart for Kandy. En route stop at the Dambulla Caves. Also visit the Matale Spice Garden.

Arrive in Kandy and visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth. See the blessing ceremony with all the fanfare, drums, trumpets and brightly coloured Monks performing their rituals.
Day 8
Kandy

After breakfast visit the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, an orphanage, nursery and captive breeding ground for wild Asian elephants.

Also visit the nearby Millennium elephant Foundation which houses a number of elephants rescued from various situations.
Day 9
Kandy – Nuwara Eliya


Take the train to Nuwara Eliya at an altitude of 1800m built by the British in the 19th century.

Proceed the rest of the way by car to the hotel. Later visit a local tea factory.
Day 10
Nuwara Eliya

Spend the morning with an exciting waterfall trek in the surrounding countryside.

Return to the hotel and the rest of the day is at leisure.
Day 11
Nuwara Eliya – Yala National Park

Depart for Yala National Park which is home to 400 elephants and 40 leopards in addition to wild buffalo, deer, black bears, macaques, jackals and a variety of birds.

Embark on a jeep safari in the park.
Day 12
Yala National Park – Mirissa

We have another chance to enjoy the park with a second jeep safari.

Drive further south to the seaside resort of Mirissa. Mirissa is the largest fishing port on the south coast and is known for its tuna, mullet, snapper and butterfish. It is also a fishing port and one of the island’s main whale and dolphin watching locations.

13 & 14
Mirissa


Two days of sun, sea, sand and relaxation. There is the opportunity to go scuba diving and surfing
Day 15
Mirissa – Colombo

Drive the 150 miles up the cost to Colombo and check in to your hotel. Have a guided tour of the capital visiting the Gangarama Temple and the historical Museum of Colombo.
Day 16
Colombo

An airport transfer will be arranged for you for your onward flight.
