North India Palaces and Forts - Itinerary
This tour explores some of the hundreds of palaces and forts dotted throughout Rajasthan and northern India. Visit Kuchaman Fort, with its dramatic location atop a 300m cliff. Khimsar’s fort is situated at the very edge of the Thar Desert where you can ride a camel at sunset.
The 16th century Rohet fort is in an area populated by the Bishnoi – Rajasthan’s nomadic people. You also get to see the magnificent Udaipur Palace on the banks of Lake Pichola, Jaipur’s opulent City Palace and the lesser-known Deogarh Palace.
Day 1
Day 1 Delhi

Arrive at Delhi International Airport and transfer to your hotel.
Day 2
Delhi


Full day tour of the Indian capital including Qutub Minar, Humayun’s Tomb, the Red Fort and Jama Masjid – India’s largest mosque. Also visit New Delhi with its government Buildings and India Gate and Rajpath.

Over dinner we have a performance of Indian dances.
Day 3
Delhi – Mandawa


Drive to Mandawa in the area of Shekhawati, renowned or its extraordinary painted havelis.

Visit some of best preserved havelis before returning to the hotel.
Day 4
Mandawa – Kuchaman

Drive to Kuchaman Fort, perched atop a 300m cliff with a colourful bazaar at the foot of the fort.

Rest of the day is free at leisure.
Day 5
Kuchaman– Khimsar


Head for Khimsar with its fort and sand dunes, located on the edge on the Thar Desert.

Optional jeep safari to the sand dunes to witness a sun set and also take a short camel ride.
Day 6
Khimsar – Rohet

Rohet’s main attractions are the 16th century fort Rohet Garh and the lake. Rohet and its surrounding villages are populated by the Bishnoi.

Free time to explore neighbouring villages. Optional jeep safari to some Bishnoi villages.
Day 7
Rohet – Narlai

Narlai is a 15th century village located in the heart of the Aravalli Hills and surrounded by forest and breathtaking countryside.

Guided walk through the village.
Day 8
Narlai – Udaipur

Drive to Udaipur, the lake city.

Udaipur has many attractions and boasts various museums, palaces, gardens, monuments and colourful festivals.
Day 9
Udaipur


Sightseeing tour of Udaipur including the City Palace on Lake Pichola, the Jagdish temple and the beautiful garden surrounding the Pratap Memorial overlooking Fateh Sagar Lake.

Free time at leisure.

Boat ride on Lake Pichola and visit Jag Mandir Island with its Summer Palace.
Day 10
Udaipur – Deogarh

Drive out of Udaipur for Deogharh with its 17th century Palace famed for its glittering mirror-work and murals.

Free time to enjoy Deogarh.
Day 11
Deogarh – Jaipur

Drive to Jaipur and upon arrival check in to your hotel.

The rest of the day is free at leisure.
Day 12
Jaipur


Visit Amer Fort, on the rugged hills outside Jaipur and ascend to the Fort on the back of trained elephants with mahouts.

Jaipur city tour with the City Palace and Jantar-Mantar, an observatory constructed by Maharaja Jai Singh.
Day 13
Jaipur – Agra

After breakfast we depart for Agra. En route we stop at the abandoned city of Fatehpur Sikri. Located 40km from Agra, Fatehpur Sikri was built by Emperor Akbar in 1569 and abandoned after 15 years due to scarcity of water. See the graceful buildings including the Jama Masjid, Tomb of Salim Chisti, Panch Mahal and other Palaces.

We continue on to Agra Arrive and transfer to your hotel where the remainder of the day is at leisure.
Day 14
Agra – Delhi

View the wondrous Taj Mahal standing majestically on the banks of the River Yamuna. We then proceed to the vast red sandstone Agra Fort.

Drive north to Delhi and check in to your hotel.
Day 15
Delhi

Free time until airport transfer for your onward flight.
