Best of India - Itinerary
Visit some of India’s most renowned and fascinating sites on this group tour. Starting in the capital Delhi with its mix of old and new we explore the country’s Mughal past at the Taj Mahal at Agra and the abandoned city of Fatehpur Sikri before visiting Mumbai with its strong British heritage, evident at the Gateway to India and Victoria Terminus.
Cochin is another cultural melting pot with Portuguese cathedrals, Chinese fishing nets and Jewish synagogues! In Kerala the pace of life slows markedly on the backwaters, spice plantations and pristine beaches.
Day 1
Arrive Delhi

Arrive at Delhi International Airport and check in to your hotel.

Remainder of the day is free at leisure.
Day 2
Delhi


In the morning we begin a full day sightseeing of Old and New Delhi visiting the Red Fort, Raj Ghat. In the afternoon in New Delhi visit Qutub Minar, the Lotus Temple – this distinctive lotus shaped marvel in Marble is a symbol of peace. Drive past India Gate (the war memorial) and the President’s Residence and Parliament. Return to hotel and overnight in Delhi.
Day 3
Delhi – Agra

Drive to Agra, on arrival check in. In the afternoon visit Taj Mahal, perhaps the most photographed monument in the world. Then drive to Agra Fort; a massive structure reflecting the synthesis of Hindu and Central Asian architectural styles built by Emperor Akbar.
Day 4
Agra – Fatehpur Sikri – Jaipur

Drive to Jaipur, stopping en route at Fatehpur Sikri – built from red sandstone by Emperor Akbar to commemorate the birth of his son. Later drive to Rajasthan’s capital Jaipur. Upon arrival, check in to the hotel. Overnight in Jaipur.
Day 5
Jaipur


An early start for a cycling adventure, where we meander through the narrow streets, past the monuments and palaces of Jaipur. The trip offers stunning views covering palaces, lakes, mountains and small rural hamlets. Return back to hotel for breakfast.

After breakfast an excursion to Amber – a classic Rajasthan Fort-Palace. For an experience that’s truly royal visitors can reach the fort through snaking pathways on the back of an elephant. In the afternoon visit Hawa Mahal, the best-known landmark of Jaipur.
Day 6
Jaipur – Mumbai

Drive to Jaipur airport for flight to Mumbai. On arrival, transfer to hotel.

In the afternoon proceed to the Gateway of India, drive past Mumbai High Court and the ornate Victoria Terminus. Drive along Marine Drive and visit the Hanging Gardens, offering splendid views of the city. Later drive back to hotel. Overnight in Mumbai.
Day 7
Mumbai – Cochin


Depart to Mumbai airport for onward flight to Cochin. On arrival, transfer to hotel.

In the evening watch the famous dance drama of Kerala, the Kathakali. This dance is characterized by some great story telling, amazing costumes and extraordinary make-up. Overnight in Cochin.
Day 8
Cochin

Visit the Jewish Synagogue built in 1568 and the 16th century Mattancherry Palace built by the Portuguese. The Palace was presented to the Raja of Cochin as a gesture of goodwill.
Day 9
Cochin – Periyar


Drive to Periyar in Idukki district. On arrival, check into hotel.

In the evening enjoy a visit to a Spice Plantation to see various types of spices and other aromatic plants and herbs. Your guide will explain about the use of different spices in Indian cuisine. Overnight in Periyar.
Day 10
Periyar

Optional Morning guided walk in the national park.

In the evening enjoy a Kalaripayatu performance, a traditional local martial arts form.
Day 11
Periyar – Alleppey

Drive to Alleppey where we will board a “Kettuvallam”, the traditional trading vessel of this beautiful coastal region for a cruise on the backwaters. The boat will stop in villages for you to experience a glimpse of life in rural Kerala. Overnight stay on houseboat.
Day 12
Alleppey – Kovalam


Disembark from the houseboat and drive to Kovalam. On arrival check in and free time to relax on the beach.
Day 13
Kovalam – Trivandrum Depart

Morning checkout and drive to Trivandrum airport for onward flight.
